      Another Sunny Day in Georgia!

We have lived in Athens, Georgia since 1986. The natives have forgiven our Yankee roots - but not forgotten them. Our contribution to the South over the past 30+ years has been to improve among its people both diction and eating habits. Success has been slow but it is success nevertheless. You can now get in Georgia that which was unavailable 30 years ago: veal, Jewish rye bread, a whole collection of foreign cheeses, a decent sub sandwich, and TastyKakes - which in 1986 I had to have shipped to me periodically from the plant in Philadelphia.

The South's favorite double modal auxillary verb phrase "might could" has been near impossible to eradicate: "We might could visit Paris some day." If you grew up using this construction, you will not have it expunged easily.

This site is 95% essays, plus some restaurant reviews. The essays are about Culture, History, Language, Literature, Science, and Medicine. The restaurant reviews cover Athens, GA and Hilton Head Island, SC - in both areas I am the only food critic. The remaining 5% of this website is about me, and all the links about me connect from this page. (Some also from the Home Page.)

(Unfortunately for me, less than 5% of visitors to this website arrive at this page.)

My family has lived in six states: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Connecticut, and now Georgia and South Carolina. Of the 50 states, I have visited all but 9, and those 9 are not on anyone's list of "must see" states. Along the way we have met many interesting people, and I am always eager to hear from people from my past. Feel free to make contact.
